Course Description

The course combines the sciences of Agriculture, Geo-Informatics (GIS-GIS), Statistics and Spatial Analysis. Basic concepts such as Geographic Information Systems, Spatial Analysis, Integrated Spatial Approach as well as Modelling, Vector Models, Raster Models, TIN Structures, Linear Interpolation, Buffer zones, Overlay and Spatial Topology Relationships (adjacency, connectivity, inclusiveness) are explained. ArcGIS & QGIS software is used for data input, management and spatial analysis and cartographic rendering. On completion of the course and assessment, students will have acquired the knowledge required to use GIS in agricultural applications, create thematic digital maps and model crops with their specific characteristics at various scales.
