Course Description

The course aims to give students the opportunity to learn the concept of crosses in plants and methods of selecting desirable genotypes. Different selections are necessary to identify plants with desirable agronomic characteristics such as stress resistance or high yield. Students also learn about molecular methods of plant selection using genetic markers and segregation of varieties. In both theoretical and tutorial exercises students learn how to improve existing varieties or create new ones. In addition, they learn about the creation of hybrids, their seed production and the genetic principles governing them.
